Tuesday Nov 08, 2022

character
past mistakes
behavior
weaknesses
Your INNER CRITIC is desperate to keep you safe by helping you avoid:
change
uncertainty
rejection
failure
What does your INNER CRITIC say to you about your:
character?

Critic Or Coach/Part 12

Monday Nov 07, 2022

Monday Nov 07, 2022

We all have an INNER VOICE in our minds. Our INNER VOICE is the collection of thoughts we think about who we are and how we behave.
If we heard loving, encouraging, and nurturing words, our INNER VOICE will sound more like a loving, encouraging, nurturing BEST FRIEND, MENTOR, or COACH.
If we heard critical words, our INNER VOICE developed into an INNER CRITIC.
What does your INNER VOICE sound more like - CRITIC or COACH?
Does your INNER CRITIC or INNER COACH sound like:
a parent?
another adult?
a teacher?
an older sibling?
a spouse?
a friend?
a boss or co-worker?
Here are my favorite Inner Critic resources:

The Crappy Critic/Part 11

Sunday Nov 06, 2022

Sunday Nov 06, 2022

We all have an INNER VOICE in our minds. Our INNER VOICE is the collection of thoughts we think about who we are and how we behave.
We develop this INNER VOICE as young children to keep us safe. In the spirit of "getting curious", did your INNER VOICE develop to:
please your parents?
fit in?
get attention?
gain acceptance?
keep the peace?
seek and receive love?
make sure your behavior received approval?
If you want to stop your crappy habit, you must be aware of what your INNER VOICE is telling you about your capability/willingness to do so.
Here are my two favorite Inner Critic resources:

Crappy Emotional Myths/Part 10

Saturday Nov 05, 2022

Saturday Nov 05, 2022

There are crappy myths about “uncomfortable” or “negative” emotions and it doesn’t serve you to believe them.
MYTH #1: There are “good” and “bad” emotions. Nope. Some emotions feel “positive and comfortable” while others feel “negative and uncomfortable”. It will not serve you to “moralize” your feelings.
MYTH #2: Our goal is to only feel “positive” emotions. Nope. All emotions offer value in the form of insight into what you’ve been thinking and believing.
MYTH #3: When we feel “crappy” emotions, our goal is to figure out a way to feel better as quickly as possible. Nope. Our goal is to feel. Period. And, to take care of ourselves until we’ve felt the emotion all the way through.
MYTH #4: Other people’s crappy actions and words cause our emotions. Nope. When other people say or do something, we make their words and actions mean something about them or us - this meaning creates our emotions.
Ask yourself these questions:
“Does it serve me long-term to keep thinking this?”
“What is this emotion here to teach me?”
Stay tuned… I’m creating an intoxicating experience and course which will be coming your way later this fall. Prepared to be instigated, disrupted, and intoxicated with purpose, passion, and possibility.

Googled Feelings/Part 9

Friday Nov 04, 2022

Friday Nov 04, 2022

When you feel an uncomfortable emotion, instead of avoiding, resisting, or numbing it, try this instead:
Name the emotion you’re feeling: “I feel overwhelmed.”
Google the definition of the emotion: “Overwhelm means feeling buried in thoughts and emotions about ‘all there is to do’ to the point of feeling paralyzed.”
If that definition resonates with you, identify the thought you were thinking that caused you to feel overwhelmed: “I was overwhelmed because I was thinking that I’m buried by way too much I should do.”
If the definition didn’t resonate with you, google synonyms for overwhelm:
Swamped
Flooded
Buried
Submerged
Inundated
Use this list to locate what you were thinking: “I’m overwhelmed because I keep thinking that I’m swamped with obligations.”
When we know what we were thinking to cause what we’re feeling, we get to decide if we want to keep thinking it.

We must be willing to identify the uncomfortable emotions that are fueling our habitual actions.
When you feel an uncomfortable emotion, instead of avoiding, resisting, or numbing it, try this instead:
1.On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being REALLY INTOLERABLE, 4 or 5 being TOLERABLE, and 1 being BARELY NOTICEABLE, rate how the sensations FEEL in your body.
2.Then, ask your body “Do you need… “
rest?
water?
healthy food?
movement?
time to write down my thoughts?
connection?
something else?
3.Give your body what it needs.
4.Then, rank the level of the emotion again.
5.If it’s lower, ask yourself:
“Is this tolerable?”
If it is, you’ve felt your emotion all the way through.
6.If it isn’t, repeat what you did or try something new until the level of the emotion is tolerable.

Locations and Sensations/Part 7

Wednesday Nov 02, 2022

Wednesday Nov 02, 2022

We must be willing to identify the uncomfortable emotions that are fueling our habitual actions.
I invite you to consider these questions:
Where in your body do you feel the emotion:neck?
back?
jaw?
head?
shoulders?
chest?
abdomen?
hands/feet/arms/legs?
What is the physical sensation of the emotion:hot or cold?
light or heavy?
open or closed?
constricted or relaxed?
fast or slow?
bright or dull?
Be willing to ask your body: “What do you need?”

Crappy habits are truly a three-ring circus:
Ring #1: What you’re thinking while you’re in the habit. Your thinking creates what you’re feeling.
Ring #2: What you’re feeling while you’re in the habit. What you’re feeling drives or fuels your actions or inactions related to the habit.
Ring #3: What you’re actually doing or not doing.
We must be willing to identify the uncomfortable emotions that are fueling our habitual actions.
I invite you to consider these questions:
What emotion is most uncomfortable for you to feel?
How do you respond to uncomfortable emotions:avoid it?
resist it?
numb it?

Our brain seeks pleasure and, instead of being satisfied with “simple pleasures”, we get in the habit of consuming “concentrated pleasures”.

Which of these CONCENTRATED PLEASURES are you in the habit of consuming:
sugar/flour?
alcohol?
drugs/weed?
social media?
shopping?
video games?
Netflix?

risky behaviors?
Gambling?
Which of these SIMPLE PLEASURES will be satisfying?
exercise?
rest/nap?
water?
reading/podcasts?
connection with family/friends?
meditation?
journaling?
healthy foods?
shower/bath?
massage?
sex?
hobbies?
