There’s a huge difference between self-sabotaging and self-supporting while you’re stopping a crappy habit.
Consider these questions:
When you self-sabotage, are you resisting giving up the habit - or, are you resisting the circumstances you’re in?
What circumstances caused you to pick the habit you want to stop. Are you:Overweight?
Unhealthy?
In debt?
Out of shape?
Exhausted/depleted/burned out?
What are your thoughts about these circumstances?
What are your feelings about these circumstances?
When you feel these feelings, do you self-sabotage or do you self-support?
Stay tuned… I’m creating an intoxicating experience and course which will be coming your way later this fall. Prepared to be instigated, disrupted, and intoxicated with purpose, passion, and possibility.

When you’re trying to shift your Inner Critic thoughts, you can ease into a new thought using these sentence starters:
"I want to want to believe that… “
"I'm willing to consider that… “
"I'm becoming someone who… “
"I'm looking for evidence that… “
"It's possible that… “
Pick the prompt that resonates with you and rewrite your INNER CRITIC thought.

We want to LISTEN to what our Inner Critic says and QUESTION what we hear. Here’s how to do this:
Write down one of your Inner Critic thoughts and then ask these 5 QUESTIONS:
1.Is it really TRUE?
2. Is this true MOST of the time?
3. Who was the FIRST person in your life to say this to you?
4. Is that person reliable, kind, and honest?
5. Is that person a good judge of your abilities?

Inner Critic Insights/Part 20

Tuesday Nov 15, 2022

Tuesday Nov 15, 2022

The goal is NOT to ignore, get rid of, or silence our INNER CRITIC. Your IC is a "best friend with shitty communication skills". Beyond the chattering, we can find the INSIGHTS.
INSIGHTS OF THE PERFECTIONIST:
"Here are POSSIBILITIES for what you can create..."
"These seemingly IMPOSSIBLE GOALS might be fun to pursue..."
"Let me introduce you to your FUTURE SELF... "
"Can we chat about your POTENTIAL?"
INSIGHTS OF THE SABOTEUR:
"You might want to consider COURSE-CORRECTING... "
"This isn't WORTHY of your time, energy, or attention... "
"You can't do it all... so, PRIORITIZE what REALLY matters.... "
"You've got negative emotions brewing... you're considering how to BUFFER... "
INSIGHTS OF THE PESSIMIST:
"Let me trouble-shoot what might go WRONG... "
"How did you create your PAST RESULTS?"
"What LESSONS did you learn from your MISTAKES?"
"What are the OBSTACLES we can solve for in advance?"
"How must you be willing to FAIL?"
INSIGHTS OF THE MARTYR:
"How do others practice SELF-CARE?"
"Who are you BEING rather than what are you DOING?"
"What do I need to VALIDATE for myself?"
"What's no longer WORKING in my own life?"
"What no longer SERVES me?"
"What might I need to RESCUE myself from?"

We believe or react to our Inner Critic chatter because it temporarily BENEFITS us to do so. Here are those benefits:
PERFECTIONIST:
The excuse to procrastinate starting until you can do it "perfectly".
The excuse to not finish because what you're creating is "not perfect" yet.
Getting to feel as if you're always in control.
Getting to avoid uncertainty.
Getting to blame yourself and others for why you feel disappointment.
Getting tons of external approval and praise.
Getting to avoid your own emotions by staying really busy.
SABOTEUR:
Getting to avoid feeling negative emotions that we anticipate having to feel if we "follow through".
Getting to distract ourselves with the next "shiny object".
Using buffering as an "escape hatch" for any crappy emotion.
Getting to avoid failure.
PESSIMIST:
Never having her "hopes" crushed.
Getting to avoid "failure" or uncomfortable emotions.
Not being disappointed when a dream doesn't come true.
Getting to be right.
MARTYR:
You get to please others and gain approval.
You have great excuses for why you don't pursue and achieve your own goals.
You get attention for your good deeds by "virtue signaling".
You get to avoid your own problems.
You get to feel needed and indispensable.
You get credit and validation for your sacrifices.

If you BELIEVE or REACT to everything your INNER CRITIC says, here is what it may be costing you:
PERFECTIONIST:
Not getting to do hard things, because you may tend to avoid "uncertain" outcomes or seemingly "impossible" goals.
Never feeling satisfied with "what is".
Not being able to identify and aim for what is "good enough" given the current circumstances.
Never getting to feel truly worthy in spite of your imperfections.
Feeling inferior to others who are seemingly more "perfect".
SABOTEUR:
Not making continuous progress toward a goal.
Losing the ability to trust ourselves to do what we say we'll do,
Feeling distracted and unfocused.
Missing out on finishing what we start.
PESSIMIST:
Failing in advance by not even trying.
Letting your past determine your future.
Denying yourself your hopes and dreams.
MARTYR:
You steal learning opportunities from others.
You seldom reach your own goals or achieve your own dreams.
You need approval to thrive.
You are always worried about other people’s reactions to what you’re doing.
You're perpetually "exhausted' and "obligated".

expects you to over-perform
over-controls and judges
THE SABOTEUR...

chases "shiny objects"
stops trying
THE MARTYR...
sacrifices your own needs
worries about what others think

protects/rescues others
care-takes to avoid self-care
THE PESSIMIST...
believes change isn't possible
expects you to fail... again
won't admit wrong-doing
doesn't take responsibility or say "sorry"
blames others or circumstances
acts like a victim
