In her latest book, Atlas of the Heart: Mapping Meaningful Connection and the Language of the Human Experience, five-time #1 New York Times best-selling author Brene Brown writes:
“For anxiety and dread, the threat is in the future. For fear, the threat is now - in the present moment.”
Brene Brown
Consider these questions:
What do you notice dreading about the future:something that might happen?
something that you might feel?
a job?
a financial challenge?
a relationship complication?
When do you notice getting triggered by fear in the present:in certain situations or locations?
with certain people?
at work?
at home?

In her latest book, Atlas of the Heart: Mapping Meaningful Connection and the Language of the Human Experience, five-time #1 New York Times best-selling author Brene Brown writes:
“Anxiety and excitement feels the same, but how we interpret and label them can determine how we experience them.”
Brene Brown
Consider these questions:
How does excitement feel in your body?
How do you describe the sensations of excitement?
Where in your body do you notice excitement?
Am I anxious or am I excited?

In her latest book, Atlas of the Heart: Mapping Meaningful Connection and the Language of the Human Experience, five-time #1 New York Times best-selling author Brene Brown writes:
“Our anxiety often leads to one of two coping mechanisms: worry or avoidance… neither of these strategies is very effective… “
“Worry is described as a chain of negative thoughts about bad things that might happen in the future.”
“Avoidance… is not showing up and often spending a lot of energy zig zagging around and away from that thing that already feels like it’s consuming us.”
Brene Brown
Consider these questions:
When do you notice defaulting to worry when you feel anxious?
When do you notice defaulting to avoidance when you feel anxious?

In her latest book, Atlas of the Heart: Mapping Meaningful Connection and the Language of the Human Experience, five-time #1 New York Times best-selling author Brene Brown writes:
“That’s what anxiety feels like to me… an escalating loss of control, worst-case-scenario thinking and imagery, and total uncertainty… “
An anxious trait is part of a person’s personality.
An anxious state is a temporary condition based on what our brain makes a circumstance mean.
An anxiety disorder is a condition of excessive worry about everyday issues and situations that typically lasts longer than six months.
There is an anxiety you can CONTROL because it’s situational or caused by your thinking. Then, there’s the anxiety you can learn to MANAGE because it’s chemical-based and may be diagnosed as an anxiety disorder.
Consider these questions:
When do you notice feeling these anxiety symptoms:restlessness?
fatigue?
trouble concentrating?
irritability?
muscle tension?
difficulty sleeping?
How often do you refer to yourself as an “anxious” person?
Which situations and circumstances trigger your anxiety?
