We can’t expect other people to “make” us feel a certain way. We must be willing to “make our own damn merry”.
We do this by intentionally prioritizing the people, activities, and places that allow us to easily think thoughts that create the feeling we really want to feel.
I invite you to consider these questions:
Who do you spend time with and find it easy to manage your thoughts?
Who is it easy to “positive think” around - and, who isn’t?
In which environments do you find it easier to feel more open and expansive?
How willing are you to take responsibility for “making your own merry”?

You may be remembering how your holidays “used to be” BEFORE you lost that special someone, relationship, or tradition. And, you may be struggling with a holiday AFTER your old normal ended.
I invite you to consider these questions:
What BEFORE are you grieving?
Are you willing to set aside some time to “consciously cry” or grieve your BEFORE or LOSS?
How do you want to feel in your new holiday AFTER? What do you need to start or stop doing in order to feel this way?

There are certain things that are the same this holiday season - and other things that are different.
Every holiday season, I experience:
Stress
Overwhelm
Anxiety
But, because I’ve worked with coaches, teachers, and mentors, I respond to stress, overwhelm and anxiety much differently.
I invite you to consider these questions:
What SAME do you really need help with?
What kind of DIFFERENT do you know that you need, but don’t know how to create it?

In her latest book, Atlas of the Heart: Mapping Meaningful Connection and the Language of the Human Experience, five-time #1 New York Times best-selling author Brene Brown writes:
“Compassion is a daily practice and empathy is a skill set that is one of the most powerful tools of compassion… it’s not just feeling, it’s doing.”
“Pity involves four elements: a belief that the suffering person is inferior; a passive, self-focused reaction that does not include providing help; a desire to maintain emotional distance; and avoidance of sharing in the other person’s suffering.”
I invite you to consider these questions:
When do you want to offer empathy but find yourself offering pity instead? ‘
When are you only willing to care about someone from a distance?
When do you notice feeling superior to others who are suffering?

No one else can send you on a “guilt trip” because feeling “guilt” is an inside job.
Guilt is an appropriate emotion to feel when, according to you, you have said or done something you’re not proud of because it doesn’t align with your values. If you are not feeling guilty, you may be feeling discomfort because you are not able or willing to meet the expectations of others.
Consider these questions:
What are the sensations of guilt in your body?
When you notice feeling guilty, what do you make it mean about you?

In her latest book, Atlas of the Heart: Mapping Meaningful Connection and the Language of the Human Experience, five-time #1 New York Times best-selling author Brene Brown quotes Prentis Hemphill:
“Boundaries are the distance at which I can love you and me simultaneously.”
Consider these questions:
What dose or amount of time spent with others feels loving to you and to them?
What can’t you discuss with certain people?
When do you notice pushing yourself past your own capacity in order to please others?
Are there people in your life that want more from you than you are capable or willing to give?

“... if we really want to practice compassion, we have to start by setting boundaries and holding people accountable for their behavior.”
Brene Brown

Have my requests been clear and kind?

In her latest book, Atlas of the Heart: Mapping Meaningful Connection and the Language of the Human Experience, five-time #1 New York Times best-selling author Brene Brown writes:
“Boundaries are a prerequisite for compassion and empathy. We can’t connect with someone unless we’re clear about where we end and they begin. If there’s no autonomy between people, then there’s no compassion or empathy, just enmeshment.”
“Boundaries are the distance at which I can love you and me simultaneously.”
Brene Brown
Consider these questions:
Where do you need to create and communicate a boundary?
Where are you finding it challenging to feel compassion or empathy for someone?
What do you require in your relationships?

My ANCHOR HABITS are the routines that ground me and keep me centered.
Consider these questions:
When you feel yourself tipping out of your center, what do you do to center yourself?
How willing are you to prioritize these habits daily or weekly?
What prevents you from intentionally prioritizing your anchor habits?
Where do you need more stillness?
Where do you need some solitude?

In her latest book, Atlas of the Heart: Mapping Meaningful Connection and the Language of the Human Experience, five-time #1 New York Times best-selling author Brene Brown writes:
“Dread occurs frequently in response to high-probability negative events; its magnitude increases as the dreaded event draws nearer.”
Brene Brown
Consider these questions:
Do dread spending time with certain people?
Do you dread attending certain events?
Do you dread the financial part of preparing for the holidays?
Does the dread stem from trying to meet the holiday expectations of others?
