We all have different “parts” in our psyches, minds, and souls. Think of each part as a singer on American Idol, competing for the “spotlight” in our lives. Our goal is to:
identify
accept
learn from
work with
our parts.
In her brilliant book Rezoom: The Powerful Reframe to End the Crash-And-Burn Cycle of Food Addiction, author Susan Pierce Thompson outlines 6 Parts than can sabotage our highest self:
Indulgers
Controllers
Caretakers
Rebels
Inner Critics
Isolators
“The Food Indulger parts are there to soothe us when we feel hurt, rejected, or stressed.”
Here are the Indulger Archetypes or “flavors”:
Loving Parent: “You’ve had a hard day… you deserve a reward… “
Seductive Rationizer: “... just this once… a little more won’t matter… tomorrow we’ll start over… “
Rebel: “You can’t tell me what to do!”
Oblivionator/Binger: “You really need to check out… eat this… drink this… “
Impulsive Child: “I want what I want right now!”
I invite you to consider these questions:
When do you notice indulging to avoid feeling your painful emotions?
What type of Indulger resonates most with you?
What pain or emotion is your Indulger part trying to rescue you from?

When it comes to podcasting, the best way to “tip the bartender” is by heading over to Apple Podcasts and leaving a 5-star review. This helps me imbibe other listeners with the secret sauce of emotional intelligence. And, make sure to “order another round” by hitting SUBSCRIBE.

When we push ourselves to get results that feel “too much” or we’re forcing outcomes “too fast” or “too soon”, we may wind up with a dysregulated nervous system.
I invite you to consider these questions:
When do you notice pushing or forcing because you’re “right” and ending up dysregulated and stressed?
How does your body tell you that you’re nearing or have surpassed your capacity?
How committed to closing stress cycles are you willing to be?

This week, I made the decision to not renew my I.C.F. coaching certification and I really like my reasons for not doing so.
I invite you to consider these questions:
When have you looked outside yourself for external approval or permission?
What were you believing about yourself when you did so?
Who do you allow to “qualify” your gifts and talents?
If you didn’t need validation or approval going forward, what might you do?
How willing are you to trust yourself to make continuous progress without external accountability?

Anger is not a problem - it is a helpful, useful emotion that can instigate positive action. Anger only becomes problematic when we react to our anger or direct it at others.
I invite you to consider these questions:
How willing are you to feel your anger?
How often do you react to anger and direct it toward others?
When do you notice becoming immobilized or shut down in anger?
What can anger teach you about WHAT’S OK and WHAT’S NOT OK?
What is the one next anger might lead you to take?
What flavor of anger is most uncomfortable for you:impatience?
frustration?
annoyance?
irritation?
something else
How does anger show up as physical sensations in your body?

Is it really true that we can only really know who we are in juxtaposition to others?
I invite you to consider these questions:
When does it serve you to compare yourself to others?
When doesn’t it?
When does it serve you to compete with others?
When doesn’t it?
When do you compare your gifts and talents to the strengths of others?
When do you compare your passionate talents to the interests of others?

When we believe that “one size SHOULD fit all”, we unconsciously believe that there’s no room for being or doing things “differently”.
I invite you to consider these questions:
When do you expect yourself to think or feel the way others do?
When do you expect others to think or feel the way that you do?
When are you resistant to ask for what you really need?
When do you feel like you don’t have agency or have a choice?
What were you taught about settling for the “same”?

Tattling is not the same thing as “informing”. In fact, “cancel culture” is just another type of “tattling”.
When we inform, our intention is to provide someone with information in order to EMPOWER them or someone else.
When we tattle (cancel), our intention is to BLAME them or someone else, thereby ensuring that someone is:
punished
publicly shamed
overpowered
humiliated
inferior
When we tattle, we are stuck in The Drama Triangle playing the role of:
Victim
Rescuer
Persecutor
Every role is motivated by BLAME.
When we inform, we are intentionally trying to EMPOWER. In The Empowerment Dynamic,
we can intentionally play the roles of:
Creator
Coach
Challenger
I invite you to consider these questions:
When are you tempted to tattle?
When you tattle, what’s your intention for doing so:to get attention?
to blame or shame?
to be rescued?
How can you have your own back when someone tattles “on” you or to you?
How willing are you to educate yourself regarding the difference between “blaming” and “empowering”?

“Starting where we are” means to allow the present moment to be your baseline - the starting point from which you can measure your continuous progress.
I invite you to consider these questions:
What’s your “baseline” starting point in regard to your:
health?
life satisfaction and enjoyment?
energy level?
passion or excitement?

We must be willing to celebrate our progress. We tend to look at how much we still have to do, yet we must equally measure our progress and celebrate it fully.
I invite you to consider these questions:
What progress have you made:today?
this week?
this month?
this year?
What prevents you from celebrating your progress?
