Stop Tattling and Canceling

Tattling is not the same thing as “informing”. In fact, “cancel culture” is just another type of “tattling”.

When we inform, our intention is to provide someone with information in order to EMPOWER them or someone else.

When we tattle (cancel), our intention is to BLAME them or someone else, thereby ensuring that someone is:

  • punished
  • publicly shamed
  • overpowered
  • humiliated
  • inferior

When we tattle, we are stuck in The Drama Triangle playing the role of:

  • Victim
  • Rescuer
  • Persecutor

Every role is motivated by BLAME.

When we inform, we are intentionally trying to EMPOWER. In The Empowerment Dynamic

we can intentionally play the roles of:

  • Creator
  • Coach
  • Challenger

I invite you to consider these questions:

  • When are you tempted to tattle?
  • When you tattle, what’s your intention for doing so:
    • to get attention?
    • to blame or shame?
    • to be rescued?
  • How can you have your own back when someone tattles “on” you or to you?
  • How willing are you to educate yourself regarding the difference between “blaming” and “empowering”?
