How To Retreat In Winter

When we practice “box breathing”, we:

  • exhale 4-3-2-1
  • pause 4-3-2-1
  • inhale 4-3-2-1
  • pause 4-3-2-1

Each season of the year symbolically represents an/a exhale, empty pause, inhale, and full pause. 

In the winter, we intentionally decide to pause or take a break from something in order to create space. 

I invite you to consider these questions:

  • Which activities, commitments, relationships, or places do you need to take a break from?
  • Which actions or habits are you ready to take a break from?
  • What might prevent you from pausing or retreating?
