Daily Decisions/Part 2

When we decide in advance, we don’t waste energy all day long trying to make a decision regarding abstaining from a habit using our limited and waning willpower. 

Try this:

When you’re most rested (first thing in the morning/before bed at night), WRITE DOWN your decision for the next 24 hours: “I will take a break from sugar today.”

When your brain encourages you to not follow through on your decision, write down the specific thoughts that come up: “I’ll miss out if I don’t have dessert.”

Write down the emotions you feel when you aren’t in the habit: “Without sugar, I feel tense, anxious, and bored.”

Consider these questions:

  • What does my brain tell me?
  • What am I feeling?
  • Are the sensations of the feelings in my body tolerable?
